Hailing from the HTX, FROM BEYOND is a heavy on the fuzz doom metal band, also blending elements of lo-fi post-rock, space, and psychedelia into the mix. The band is currently comprised of Robert McCarthy (guitars/ vocs), Dick Beeman (drums/vocs), and Tony Kaelin (bass/vocs). The guys cite musical influences ranging from BLACK SABBATH, HAWKWIND, and PINK FLOYD to MOTORHEAD, THE STOOGES, and BLUE CHEER.

FROM BEYOND has two recordings under its belt. ‘Live From the Orange Show’ was released in December 2011 (a live take of the 9-minute opus “One Year”). And then the ‘One Year EP’ was just recently officially released this past May 2012.

The band recently wrapped-up its official EP release show at Fitzgerald’s with SAINT VITUS, DIXIE WITCH, VENOMOUS MAXIMUS and more. Thanks to GonzoGeek, there’s all kinds of great live footage available from that show – on their YouTube channel (FROM BEYOND featured below).

WHAT’S THE WRAP?

FROM BEYOND is pretty badass. That’s about it. The ‘One Year EP’ features four songs of heavy, groovy, muddy riff heavy jammin’. It’s pretty SABBATH-like (“One Year” sounds like Zep’s “Dazed and Confused” on a moldy sludge trip). And there’s some pretty cool stoner/psych-y vocal arrangements happening, making the EP a little more nice and friendly heavy (as opposed to a mean and screaming nasty heavy). Favorite track is probably the first one – “Evil (From Beyond).” But they’re all pretty dope (no pun intended). Check ‘em out. If you dig stoner/doom/sludge rock bands, you’re likely to dig FROM BEYOND. Jef With One F also ran a nice article on the band/EP over at the Houston Press HERE. You can hook-up with FROM BEYOND on Facebook HERE.

FOR FANS OF: BLACK SABBATH, SUNN O))), THE SWORD, VENOMOUS MAXIMUS, BLUE CHEER, etc.
