BLOOD RED WATER is a heavy (and I mean HEAVY) sludge metal/doom band from Venice, Italy. The band’s musical influences list range from bands like EYEHATEGOD and ST. VITUS to PINK FLOYD and QOTSA. But this band claims no genre, in particular. Some tunes are pretty doomy, other tunes could be classified as more stoner/metal. Lyrically, the band states – “Blood Red Water lyrics are a merciless portrait of what can save a life or ditch it, you can even find redeem words as well as the deepest dopesick despair.”

BRW is comprised of members Fiorica (rheumatic alcoholic cymbals), Volt (feedback & big muff junkie), Michele (chronic vocals disorder), and Lorenzo (additional bass player and explosives expert). The band released a 5-song EP ‘Tales Of Addiction and Despair’ back in January 2012, recorded and mixed at Flameout Studio (December 2011), with cover artwork by Sparta.
Here are some quotes/reviews from around the blogs:
“Their Sludge sound is full of mud, dirt and filth and I would say that these three words sum it up for the entire EP. ” – Dr. Doom’s Lair
“It is a 23 minute pummeling hellride of power, energy and infectious riffing. The band may not be doing anything new but this will most likely be one of 2012′s great sleeper releases. Fans of sludge-metal who don’t mind a bit of hardcore and old-school metal injected into the mix will dig this….8.5/10″ – Doommantia
“This is again a great discovery, you really should not miss this band, so go now on bandcamp and download this great debut for free.” – Temple Of Perdition
What’s our verdict?
This stuff is waaayyy too heavy for this cat. But we listened to it. And we try to stay open-minded enough to appreciate and realize that many folks out there will enjoy this. This stuff is straight bludgeoning horrifying sludge metal. If you dig bands like ACID BATH, ELECTRIC WIZARD, EYEHATEGOD and the like, you’ll likely dig this EP. Usually, we can generally jive with some of this kind of stuff. Other times, it’s just way too heavy. This is one of them. We were going to share the vid for “Ungod” but it scared the living shit out of us. You can find the video on the band’s YouTube channel HERE (FAIR WARNING: if you are weak in the stomach, or easily freaked-out by old twisted horror, you may want to skip). You can learn more all about BLOOD RED WATER and link up with more reviews and whatnot on their Facebook page HERE.
