RT PICS: NEW BOMB TURKS – Red 7 (Austin, TX – 11.12.11)

The NEW BOMB TURKS tore up somethin’ absolutely hellacious last night at Red 7 in Austin. Following killer warm-up sets by Lone Stars OBN III’s, GRAND CHAMPEEN, and HIGH TENSION WIRES – the NEW BOMB TURKS blew through a round of their own classic nitro-burnin’ hot fire punk n’ roll.

Absolutely adore the TURKS. They ripped through a pile of tunes from a couple of my favorite albums of theirs – including Destroy Oh Boy and Information Highway Revisited. And Eric was as lively and animated as usual with his Jagger meets Iggy brand of raw power – crowd surfing, jumping and commanding around like a wild man, and interacting with the audience with his own unique style of punk rock comedics. It was totally insane.

There are three things that typically first come to mind, when I think about Ohio. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the NEW BOMB TURKS (yes – one of theee baddest punk n’ roll bands of all time – hails from Ohio). I don’t give a shit which HOF they end up in, but there shouldn’t be a single argument about whether or not the TURKS belong there.

If you’re in Austin tonight, Eric is doing a spoken-word appearance at Beerland Texas. He’ll be reading excerpts from and signing copies of his new book entitled We Never Learn – The Gunk Punk Undergut, 1988-2001.
