RT 2011 VID of the YEAR: RED FANG – “Wires”

by ROCKTHOUGHT.COM | FOLLOW on FACEBOOK | FILED in VIDEOS

If you’re familiar with RED FANG (from Portland, OR), you know that not only their songs, but their videos (especially) are the stuff of legend. RED FANG released its second full-length LP earlier this year (April 2011) on Relapse Records – entitled Murder the Mountains. Shortly thereafter, their music video for the first single “Wires” lit-up the airwaves with its low-budget “reality vid” mix of raucous humor and mammoth slabs of doom metal mayhem.

The band worked again with director Whitey McConnaughy – the man behind their equally hilarious/Holy Grail/I-just-got-my-ass-kicked-in video for “Prehistoric Dog” from their first self-titled LP. The video for “Wires” also features ROTFL scenes and skits of the band inhaling cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon, destroying everything in sight with a used station wagon turned makeshift M48 Patton Series war tank, and oh yeah…Rock and Roll everywhere (plus a Brian Posehn cameo, beer helmets, balls, tools, wrecks, lots of gallons of milk, and of course – destruction all over the god damb place).

I’m sure most FANG fans could laugh chat all day about the band’s videos. But perhaps the easiest way – as one “Wires” YouTube commenter QuantumHeap notes – “All music videos forever should be RED FANG music videos.”

AMEN.

FOR FANS OF: MELVINS, CLUTCH, MASTODON, THE SWORD; ungodly riffs of headbanger doom and sludge; getting blasted constantly; raising hell constantly; constantly blasting everything constantly.

Perhaps a close runner-up might have gone to the FOO FIGHTERS’ video for “White Limo.” Happy New Year.
