Caught up with a killer new local band over the weekend by the name of GHOSTS ALONG THE BRAZOS. And their whole main idea is simple: “play and write music that you believe in, and others will believe in it too.”
The band just released its first debut self-titled album. And it’s a crazy hypnotically funky blend of jazz/country fusion mixed with some folky blues rock bad ass.
Even further, however, you’ll encounter moments with GATB’s Americana-tinged tuneage – where you feel as if you’ve been transported back to the Rat Pack era and even classic 30′s/40′s swing.
Bottom line: this ATX 5-piece is a piece of pure heaven.
Frontman Jacob Jaeger is the primary song-writer in this crew. And he leads up this cast of Austinites with a refreshingly up-beat, funny (and funky), dance-friendly medley of kick ass acoustic folk rock, and swing-y country/jazz. Killer keys-smith Connor Forsyth brings his chops in from his previous band, The Belleville Outfit (and also splits time with GATB and the legendary Ray Price). Bassist Kris Wade and guitarist Greg Harkins bring their swing/jazz influences in from the previous The Marshall Ford Swing Band. And drummer James Gwyn rounds out the bunch, while also splitting time touring with country legend, Junior Brown.
It’s no wonder these guys fuse all of their influences together so nicely.
And for a bunch of guys in their mid-20′s, fresh together now for just over a year – you’d think that they’ve been strummin’ and jammin’ with each other since 1956.
The GHOSTS singular mission is pure and simple. And there’s absolutely no doubt about it. We’re talkin’ real, honest music played by real, honest people. Can’t get much better than that.
Just an absolute pile of fun. And if you’re lookin’ for some new tunes to help you celebrate the holidays this year, look no further than GHOSTS ALONG THE BRAZOS. Pure dynamite (and an undeniably festive feast of real deal kickass).
